The Regenokine® Program

Background

Around one billion people worldwide suffer from joint or back pain.

For more than 20 years, Dr. Wehling and a network of international scientists have advanced the understanding of musculoskeletal pain, osteoarthritis, and aging. Their work helped establish a modern view of pain – one that recognizes both mechanical stress and complex biological processes such as chronic inflammation, impaired tissue repair, and age-related molecular changes.

This research led to the development of the Regenokine® Program, a personalized, multimodal treatment designed to address the broad biological drivers of pain and degeneration rather than focusing on a single pathway. The approach aims to rebalance inflammatory processes, support tissue health, and help the body return to a healthier functional state.

The Program has been used by world-class athletes, active individuals, and everyday patients with the intent to diminish pain, improve function and restore tissue health – collectively resulting in an improvement in quality of life.

Aging, injury, and trauma all contribute to musculoskeletal decline. Effective orthopedic care must therefore consider both the mechanical damage and the underlying biomolecular factors that accelerate deterioration. The Regenokine® Program is built on this integrated philosophy.

What is the Regenokine® Program?

A new therapeutic approach and customized solution to treat joint and back pain.

The Regenokine® Program represents a treatment philosophy and is a tailored treatment program geared towards the individual patient. Regenokine® Program doctors set out to examine each patient and formulate a comprehensive set of treatment modalities custom-tailored towards the patient’s individual needs. The Program draws from a variety of diagnostic and therapeutic methods, state-of-the-art pain management and lifestyle measures to address pain from various angles.

Many pain patients benefit from a component of the Regenokine® Program – a unique injection therapy, involving autologous conditioned serum and mediators (growth factors, cytokines) as a potentially important component.

Why the Regenokine® Program?

The goal of the Regenokine® Program is:

✓ Reduced pain

✓ Improved mobility
✓ Improved quality of life

Every patient is different and no single treatment, or collection of treatment modalities, will work for all.

The Regenokine® Program pursues a comprehensive approach that is intended to be tailored to the individual needs of each patient. The Regenokine® Program is a non-surgical treatment approach in the field of orthopedic medicine with the intent to diminish pain, improve function and restore tissue health –collectively resulting in an improvement in quality of life. Some modalities may require referral to various external specialists.

An important building block of the Program is an injection therapy with autologous conditioned serum (ACS). The patient’s own blood is processed to obtain an orchestra of proteins, growth factors, and cytokines through physiological secretion and separation. These mediators are believed to have anti-inflammatory characteristics and other restorative properties that may be beneficial and may lead to diminished pain. Serum and body own proteins are re-injected into painful areas including joints, spine, tendons, and/or muscles.

This treatment is not appropriate for everyone but doctors applying the Regenokine® Program have found it to be a helpful tool in their fight against pain. Every patient is different and no single treatment, or collection of treatment modalities, will work for all. That is true for the Regenokine® Program, the associated injection therapy, and all other modalities as a potential part of the Program. Your doctor may also employ medication and more traditional physical rehabilitation modalities. It’s an “all of the above” approach. Your treating physician will evaluate whether you are a candidate for the Regenokine® Program or if other treatment options including surgery may be a more suitable option.

Adverse events reported by patients and/or their doctors after injection therapy with Autologous Conditioned Serum (ACS) had a combined frequency of <1% of total injections in Europe from 2012 through 2019. The most frequently reported adverse events were painful injection sites, local inflammatory reactions (swelling, heat, pain), and flu‑like symptoms. Injections with ACS have also been studied clinically for safety and effectiveness. Across 5 randomized controlled studies with a total of 750 patients (302 ACS / 448 control) ACS injections had a safety profile comparable to placebo and other therapeutic modalities used in the control groups. One study observed one case of a joint infection after injection with ACS. The most frequently observed adverse events in these studies were joint-related (swelling, pain in the injection site).

Who should inquire / Am I a candidate?

The Regenokine® Program was developed for patients suffering from orthopedic pain or dysfunction wherever it occurs. If this describes you, ask your Regenokine® Program doctor if the Program can help you.

The Regenokine® Program is individually tailored to the needs of each patient with orthopedic diseases and pain conditions.

As an example, one of the core building blocks in the Regenokine® Program, has been investigated in randomized controlled trials for the treatment of knee osteoarthritis, sciatica in spine diseases, and chronic shoulder pain. The authors of these trials found that autologous conditioned serum injections, were effective in reducing joint pain and improving joint function (movement). Across these 5 randomized controlled trials injection therapy with ACS had a safety profile comparable to placebo and other therapeutic modalities used in the control groups.

Dr. Wehling and other Regenokine® Program doctors have also applied the Program in various other orthopedics pain conditions besides the listed ones.
